The name comes from that old joke about the dart-throwing, stock-picking monkeys. A second reason for the name is that it carries a built-in disclaimer: the site is obviously not claiming to be an authority on anything. They claim to try hard to be accurate, but also remind you to always double check whatever you see with additional sources.

If you think Wall Street has degenerated into a kind of sick (depressing) joke, check out a more ‘professional’ approach to the markets by visiting City Index. Based in London, they are an actual, legal gambling enterprise, allowing you to bet on sports and financial markets. Their web page gives you a nice, concise, ‘professional’ view of what the markets will be doing today. They cover the London stock market, the Dow, Nasdaq, the euro, gold, and a couple of British and U.S. stocks. I don’t know if there is any way for U.S. citizens to do any betting and I certainly don’t recommend that anyone do so, but since they’ve got money on the line there is a good chance that the numbers are reasonably solid.
